Government appoints ex Tesco CEO Sir David Lewis as supply chain adviser

The Prime Minister has appointed former Tesco chief executive, Sir David Lewis, to the role of Government supply chain adviser to help deal with the supply chains crisis the UK is currently facing.

He will operate in an advisory capacity until the end of this year and will advise Boris Johnson and the chancellor on immediate improvements and any long-term changes that are necessary to help UK supply chains better cope.

He will look at identifying the causes of current blockages, as well as pre-empt potential future ones, and advise on actions to solve them. He will also work closely with industry to improve government access to data.

Lewis will co-chair the new Supply Chain Advisory Group, made up of external experts, and the new Industry Taskforce. He begins his new role today and will be based in the Cabinet Office.

Johnson said: “There are currently global supply issues which we are working with industry to mitigate and Dave brings a wealth of experience which will help us continue to protect our businesses and supply chains.”
