Pets At Home is introducing a 60-minute click and collect service after introducing new technology to its supply chain.
The company is using an order management system to unify inventory across its stores and online distribution centre.
This means that customers can place the order on the site and have it fulfilled from their chosen store within 60 minutes. With more bulky items they can order them for separate home delivery over a different time frame.
As well as offering a better service to customers, Pets At Home also expects to see efficiencies from reduced logistical costs.
Chris Holyland, group digital director at Pets at Home, said: “Improving convenience sits at the heart of this initiative.
“We know our customers love to collect their orders from our stores, so enhancing the collection experience through the launch of same day, one hour Click & Collect will help us meet expectations. Selecting a proven order management system is key to offering these new services.”
Romulus Grigoras, CEO of OneStock, which provided the OMS, said: “An optimised OMS is increasingly becoming the cornerstone of every retailer’s IT system across all sectors.
“Implementing this customer-centric approach in response to changing expectations will allow Pets at Home to deliver a best-in-class online proposition. Shoppers can check local stores and be confident they can buy the goods and services they need.”
Pets At Home signed a conditional agreement for a new West Midlands distribution centre last month, with completion expected in 2022. It plans for the new warehouse to offer a single comprehensive site for omnichannel fulfilment.
