Urban Outfitters and Games Workshop take on new UK warehouse space

Urban Outfitters and Games Workshop are both taking on new warehouse space in the UK.

Urban Outfitters will deploy a range of automation technologies at a new distribution centre in Peterborough, England.

The retailer will use TGW’s FlashPick solution and Manhattan Associates’ warehouse management system. Received cartoons are emptied into totes and transported to a mini-load warehouse, where a shuttle system transports the totes to workstations to be manually packed.

The project will go live in 2021.

Meanwhile, a new 177,500 square foot warehouse has been completed ahead of schedule for fantasy miniatures retailer Games Workshop.

Located at SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway, near Derby, the site will become the retailer’s main distribution hub in Autumn 2020. The site also hosts Amazon and ShopDirect.

Andrew Pilsworth, SEGRO’s business unit director national logistics, said: “Despite the construction challenges presented by necessary social distancing guidelines in recent months, we’re pleased to have safely completed the development ahead of schedule while adhering to the new measures.

“We look forward to welcoming Games Workshop to their new distribution hub at SLPEMG, where they will join a rapidly growing number of companies operating on the site.”

The retailer saw revenues grow 19% year-on-year in the six months to December.
