AO World trials third-party delivery of furniture and expands its installation business

AO World has placed a continued focus on its third-party logistics business in the last six months as it begins trials to deliver non-electrical products and leverage its green van fleet.

Speaking at its interim financial results for the six months ended 30 September 2018 this week the company said it is trialling furniture delivery on behalf of third-party retailers using its green van fleet.

The period has also seen the company add an additional transhipping outbase to its UK logistics infrastructure in Telford and a further two since the period end, one in Coventry and the other in Luton.

AO now has 17 outbases and hopes to open two more by the end of the financial year. “This will help ensure resilience in our delivery network and maintain our market leading product availability for customers, whilst reducing stem mileage and improving efficiencies in our logistics division,” said the company’s CEO Steve Caunce.

AO World is also concentrating on developing its premium installation service to allow it to deliver, install and remove products in one visit to a customer for any of the built-in products sold by ao.com.

Efficiency has also been a key focus with an in-house fleet intelligence system that dynamically chooses the most efficient method for delivery and further development of routing techniques which have allowed it to expand its premium installation service. The company also now offers dynamic time-slots.
